Position: Health Care Analyst

The Health Care Analyst will (i) provide research, analytical, and operational support to the Health Care team; (ii) work closely with senior team members on diverse substantive projects; and (iii) gain practical, hands-on experience in funding and reviewing research studies, and using the results to inform the policy process.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Provide analytical and operational support for the Health Care team’s research funding initiatives;
  • Conduct research/analysis of social programs and policies, and help develop LJAF and policy initiatives based on such analysis;
  • Compose, fact-check, and/or edit policy papers, letters, website content, and other written materials;
  • Actively contribute to team meetings regarding projects, suggesting ideas and brainstorming;
  • Coordinate and actively contribute to meetings on evidence-based reform with government officials, researchers, foundation officials, program providers, and other stakeholders; and
  • Collaborate with other LJAF teams (e.g., Criminal Justice) in areas of joint activity.
Essential Skills, Experience, and Qualities:
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • One to two years’ experience in a related field is preferred, including part-time work or internships.

Business Systems Analyst IV in Assurant at Philadelphia, US-PA

Job description

Assurant’s Connected Living Technology team is looking for a highly skilled Business Analyst to move our organization to the next level. The business lines we support have experienced explosive growth over the last few years and we are currently looking to expand our teams that deliver market leading technology solutions for our clients that include Cellular Carriers and high profile device OEM’s.
This position supports Assurant Solutions Mobile Services Business in Wayne, PA. The Business Analyst IV is responsible for providing expert support for complex system development/enhancements/problems/issues and handling projects that are complex in nature or projects supporting corporate initiatives and impacting other areas (interfaces/sub-systems). The Analyst’s primary role is to support the department’s systems and their interfaces, and the staff by recommending and implementing system enhancements that promote efficiency, compliance, and growth.
Responsibilities
• Work closely with both internal and external customers, vendors and other areas in Assurant in the development of Requirements. Interpret high-level business, compliance and financial needs/requests for complex projects, with little or no background information or foundation.
• A self-starter that has the ability to lead requirements gathering sessions.
• Be the “go to” person for knowledge of the department’s applications and data. Work closely with the Development and Testing Teams on complex system changes.
• Experience in development of Requirements for Web based, Mobile Applications, Web Services based functionality and as well as File Interfaces. Identify opportunities to improve or gain efficiencies within our system applications. Resolve complex, non-routine problems and issues where no precedent has been established or exists. Identify trends/patterns; facilitate and/or conduct root cause analysis; recommend solution alternatives.
• Ability to identify priority issues and determine which issues can be handled within the authority of an Analyst and being able to discern those issues requiring direction from a higher authority.
• Analyze complex processes, interfaces and sub-system problems for modification. Participate in new process definition efforts, as requested. Document existing and new business processes and workflows with a high level of complexity. Data mapping of complex tables, files and records resulting from the corporate initiatives that involve system integrations, business acquisitions, and assumptions.
• Write business requirements for complex projects, including the definition, scope, objectives, and defining the approach. Ensure IT understanding of requested modifications of complex projects, and the accuracy of their technical specification documents. Define and document detailed, functional business requirements, including system scope and objectives for complex projects.
• Work closely with the Testing team to determine testing requirements for complex projects involving cross-functional areas and sub-systems. Assist as needed in Designing and drafting test plans as well participate in testing for complex, large-scale projects.
• Demonstrate detailed knowledge of project management principles established and approved by our Company. Handle multiple projects, concurrently. Develop plans for project tasks, including scheduling and coordinating activities of other team members to produce deliverables. Monitors progress of implementation schedules and redirects efforts when project goals are not being met. On smaller projects the Business Analyst may serve also as the project manager. Large projects typically have a dedicated Project Manager.
• Coordinate production implementation efforts with User community and IT. Communicate implementation timelines and tasks.
• Provide client support as required.
• Create atmosphere conducive to success.

Desired Skills and Experience

Basic Qualification
• 5 years Business Analysis experience.
• 5 years of experience with translating business requirements into BRD (Business Requirements Document)
• 3 years of experience using a variety of applications including Microsoft .Net including Web Services, SQL Server and Microsoft’s suite including Project and Visio.
Other Requirements
• Previous Insurance and Wireless (Cell Phone Industry), experience highly desired.
• Previous experience is highly desired for producing Business Requirements Documentation using TFS.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment with changing priorities.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively meet and drive the requirements gathering with our customers as well as perform analytical and system support duties.

Position Summary:
Position handles excess severity, which have moderate to high monetary exposure to the company. This includes making coverage determinations, investigating the loss, conducting an independent assessment as to the company's exposure, participate in developing and implementing the most cost effective and timely disposition and litigation plan to ensure the claims closure via settlement or litigation. Position requires travel to attend meditations and trials.
Performance Objectives:
(1) determine the scope and extent of available coverage. Re-evaluate coverage as warranted. Clear and concise written and verbal communication with insureds, brokers and underwriters; (2) prepare and execute investigation strategies which identify critical issues effecting liability, causation and damages and consider opportunities of third-party contribution.; (3) independently negotiate claims after obtaining the appropriate authority. Document evaluation, thought process, and strategy. Utilize ADR as appropriate and necessary; (4) Effectively strategize and budget the litigation of each claim through discussions with counsel, vendors and insureds. Establish with defense and coverage counsel clear ground rules in order to maintain financial control of budget and expenses; (5) Make regular and appropriate contact with internal and external customers. Give guidance to insured and/or broker to manage expectations.
The Ideal Candidate Should Have:
- 4-6 years Commercial/ Industry claims experience.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal/ written) and negotiation skills.
- Advanced experience and capabilities in litigation claims management, including ADR and mediation processes, involving auto/GL exposures.
- Experience attending and controlling cases at meditations/ settlement conferences, pre suit, post suit, pre trial and post trial.
- JD preferred

JOB SUMMARY: Provides operational and consultative support to business units, staff offices and HR in the area of Occupational Health and Wellbeing. Responsibilities include health education and promotion, disease management consultation, safety consultation, clinical services, ergonomic support and training, workers’ compensation claim first aid and initiation support, Americans with Disabilities Act consultation, and modified duty work requests. Creation and implementation of location specific interventions designed to mitigate the health risks of the particular population.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to Occupational Health Manager. No direct reports.
CORE JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provides on-site clinical assessment and treatment of associate’s illness/injuries and health education/disease management consultation.
  2. Supports the development and execution of health and productivity initiatives by creating and implementing location specific care plans to educate associates and mitigate the health risks of the population. Includes educational offerings, Health Fairs, business unit presentations, Wellness Wednesdays, participation in team meetings, and partnerships/recruitment with local Health Teams.
  3. Conducts ergonomic assessments and makes recommendations to leadership to ensure safe and comfortable work environments and adherence to regulations, including ADA. May include office workstations, fleet vehicles, and technology needs. Follows through to ensure interventions are successful.
  4. Actively consults with leadership on health related issues that may affect associate performance, compliance and regulations. Manage return to work modification requests involving medical needs.
  5. Documents workers’ compensation claims reported and facilitates non-disability return to work.
  6. Consults on ADA needs/requests and facilitates process by providing medical consultation to OAR.
  7. Adheres to occupational health standards of practice and state nursing laws, and maintains and safeguards confidentiality of all associate health information.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Diploma or degree in Nursing, graduate coursework preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: Registered Nurse in state of clinical practice. Certification in Occupational Health or Rehabilitation preferred. CPR and AED certification required.
Experience: Five years’ experience in health related field such as emergency, critical care, or occupational health preferred.
Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of theory and practice in nursing related fields of study and working knowledge of other health and safety related fields. Strong medical background with emphasis on ability to evaluate medical disabilities and establish standards for effective plans in rehabilitation services. Technical/functional background in emergency/critical care or case management/ rehabilitation. General corporate administrative practices and policies with an emphasis on handling confidential medical issues. Current knowledge of governmental regulations and community health principles.
Skills/Competencies: Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Highly approachable with strong customer service skills. Demonstrates integrity and trust to gain positive outcomes and effective working relationships with customers. Possesses functional and technical skills to enable independent nursing judgements.
